Danny Rolph: Jèrriais Exhibition  (In partnership with ArtHouse Jersey)
3 May – 10 June 2019

Danny Rolph: Jèrriais Exhibition  (In partnership with ArtHouse Jersey) -  Born in London in 1967, Danny Rolph has been a professional artist for 24 years and has gained international acclaim exhibiting all over the world. After completing his degree in Fine Art at the Winchester School of Art he went on to achieve an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. Since 2009 he has been a professor of Fine Art at Bucks News University and has taught at various post-graduate institutions including the Royal Academy Schools and Royal College of Art. He is currently represented by 532gallery Thomas Jaeckel (NYC) and Barbara Davis Gallery (Houston). His work is held in many important private collections including Facebook HQ, Speyer Tishmann, Goldman Sachs, Duke and Duchess of Westminster as well as The Metropolitan Museum NYC and The Tate Gallery London.

Rolph has been nominated for the Sovereign European Art Prize and Hamlyn Award and has received numerous prizes including the John Minton Travel Award, a Delfina Trust Award and the London Visual Arts Award. He was also appointed Scholar at the British School at Rome. He lives and works in London.

Danny started working with CCA and printing at Worton Hall Studios in 2017. He had his first solo exhibition in Jersey at CCA Galleries International that winter. Last year he sat on the selection panel for the Jersey Summer Exhibition and helped launch the Summer Prize. Jèrriais is his first exhibition in Jersey French and has evolved after a lifelong fascination with language. Danny grew up in a family speaking cockney rhyming slang and jokes that being a painter affords him similar status to an endangered language!

The exhibition is made up of 12 pieces, made out of Danny Rolph’s signature triple wall paintings. Each work represents a specific word from a Jèrriais haiku that is incorporated in the painting. As well as the opportunity to view and purchase the new work, the gallery will be showing earlier silkscreens and collage.

The show opens with a Private View and drinks with the artist 5.30 – 7.00, Thursday, 2 May. Jèrriais folk band, Badlabecqueswill be making a guest performance and there will be a donation bar. The event is strictly RSVP e: enquiries@ccagalleriesinternational.com  or t: 01534 739900.

Danny will be holding a masterclass on ‘How Jersey can connect with the International Art Scene’. The discussion takes place 12.30 -1.30, Friday 3 May amongst the new work. Tickets should be booked in advance from the gallery and cost £10 (£5 for students).

The gallery and exhibition will be open on Saturday, 4 May from 11.00 – 2.00, with Bachîn ringing by Geraint Jennings around 12.00. The exhibition coincides with La Fête du Jèrriais 2019 - more information on other Jèrriais activities can be found at fb @lafetedujerriais

"Sitting in on Geraint Jennings and Danny sparring in Jèrriais and Cockney Rhyming slang was one of the most exhilarating conversations I’ve had in a while. CCA International have always supported the Jèrriais language and are looking forward to taking it to a wider audience. Danny’s work is in collections all over the world and this is a rare chance to own a piece of International Jèrriais and join the discussion for it’s survival.
